The Birthplace of Alexander Selkirk (Robinson Crusoe)'
My wife has inherited a painting by Macmaster entitled 'The Birthplace of Alexander Selkirk (Robinson Crusoe)'. Some preliminary research has revealed that he produced a number of versions of this subject, so I assume it's not very rare. However, I would like to have some idea how much it might be worth for insurance purposes. I have seen that a copy was sold recently in the USA, but the website of the auction house doesn't show the price.
Has anybody any idea of a 'ballpark' figure. It's in what looks like the original frame; thick, fairly ornate and gilt.
I'm not trying to sell it - it looks fine on my lounge wall.
