Dingwell B Tate
Seeking information on the artist of two water colour paintings. His name is Dingwell B Tate and they are dated 1922.

Response from: Pauline A Wilkinson

In reply to your query re. DINGWELL B TATE. He was a cousin of my grandfather and  I believe he was born and lived in Sunderland. I do not have a birth date but he died in 1936 at 16 Foyle Street, Sunderland.

He was a woodcarver and gilder by trade, as well as being a well kwown Sunderland artist. His painting of 'Dicky Chiltons House on Bishop Wearmouth Green' is in Sunderland Museum And Art Gallery. He frequently exhibited water colours in north country art exhibitions.

Mr Tate was also a photographer and was appointed to photogragh King Edward V11 during a visit to Lambton Castle.
He did a drawing of Stoop Mill Ryhope in 1873. We have one of his water colours, a sailing boat in a misty seascape dated 1915.

I hope this is of interest to you

I am the grandson of the late Stanley Sothern Shuter who lived in
Edinburgh from 1876 to 1964.  I understand his main occupation was as a theatre screen painter but he did produce many landscape paintings.

We have two of his works, "Rosslyn Castle" and "Melrose Abbey by Moonlight" and we are very interested in tracing any other works that may be in Scotland.

Can you help? - and, if not, can you suggest anyone else we may
contact?

Thank you.

William Kidd
-Burns Poem Paintings
I am looking for information about a painting that I believe was painted by an artist named William Kidd.  I hear from some one the he was a friend of Rob Burns the poet. He paint scenes of Robert's poems.  If any one knows anything please contact me at ogal@mail.com

Webmaster to Ogal:
William Kidd (1796-1863) still life painter influenced by David Wilkie (1785-1841 - most successful artist of his time) and was a pupil of James Howe, William Bonner (1800-1853) William Simson (1800-1847) Walter Geikie (1795-1873).

Wilkie had an interest in Both the Burns-inspiring poet (Robert  Ferguson) and Robert Burns and painted on subjects of both poets, but could not have been a friend of Burns as he was born in the same year as Burns died. Anyone let us know of any paintings.

River Mortinson or Morrison
I have a beautiful 28X20 inch water colour of the river Mortinson or Morrison painted by Geo Straton Ferrier, dated 1881.Does anyone have any knowledge of the artist or this particular work?
I would appreciate any information you might have on the artist. I understand he was a member of the British water-colour society(?) Looking forward to your response.

J. Waterston
I am looking for any information on the painter J. Waterston who painted a water-colour picture of Loch long in 1866

Mystery Painting
Do you know about a painting of this description? My husband's grandmother (originally from Scotland) had a huge print in her living room of a scene of a castle at night, and a
girl (or princess) climbing out a window?) to meet one or two scotsmen in a boat rescuing her.  I think it was  a moonlit night.  His mother thinks the name of the painting was  "Jacques of Hazeldene" (which sounds awfully French to me - not Scottish). I am looking for information about this or a print of the painting for my husband.  He admired from the time he was very young until an adult.
